Grassroots Motorsports Challenge $2005

We have decided to partake in the GRM Challenge next year. For those that don’t know the challenge is to buy a car and build it to compete for $2005 or under. The car will have to go through drag, autocrossing and a “show” competition.

The car that I have picked up for this challenge is a 1988 Honda CRX off of eBay. I purchased the vehicle for $2050 but will be selling some things off of it to make up for spending so much.

Here is some of the things the car came with:
Honda SI Transmission With Quaife LSD
ACT Heavy Duty P/P, Street Disc
D16A6
T3/T4 Turbonetics 60-1 Stage 5 Custom turbo with V-Band inlet
Custom Tri-Y equal length Turbo Manifold
Tial 38mm Wastegate (red)
3 in. Downpipe
3in. Exhaust System (Downpipe Back)
PWR Intercooler 20in x 9in
Greddy Type S BOV
Custom Charge pipe
Wings West 6 piece Mugen Body Kit included (Not Installed)
Eibach Coil Over Kit.
Z-speed Short throw shifter

All for $2050!!!!!!muahahahah

I drove it from Ft. Worth back to Austin without any problems except having to baby it the entire way do to it not currently being tune. We need to sit down this weekend and come up with a list of things that need to get done.

I will try and keep this up to date with the progress made on the car.

Kayak Trip...From Hell!!!

For the past few weeks we have been planning a kayak fishing trip to Matagorda Island State Park. We would kayak what we thought would be 6 miles from Port O’Connor to the island, stopping occasionally to cast our lines. If needed we would camp at one of the surrounding islands if we couldn’t make it in one day. The guy that put this together cancelled the week before due to family issues coming up. Should of been a sign since he was the only person familiar with the area.

We left Austin for Port O’Connor on Thursday around 8am. We arrived at around noon and headed to the Parks and Wildlife HQ. We find out some information that kind of screws us. First, we cannot camp on any of the islands between POC and Matagorda ( This changes later as another Park Ranger says the first ranger is a dumb ass). Second, the trip to the island is really 12 miles and 10 miles if we cut through the islands which we were going to do. Third, the winds are a constant 25mph and will be hitting against us.

So we get our kayaks packed and start to head out at 1:30PM. This was later then we wanted to leave. Pretty shortly into the trip we could tell this wind was going to kill us. We are so behind that we are unable to even fish at all. Our only goal is to get to the island. We are making really crappy time. We get to about the half way point and we are beat. We keep going and then run into a oyster reef. YAH! This tears the shit out Clint and I kayaks. After we get out of the reef I notice my kayak has taken alot of water and is getting hard to get it moving. We are thinking that the oyster reef popped a hole. We stop and stand up on the reef and tip the kayak to drain it. We inspected this and didn’t find any holes.

At this point it is 6:30PM and we are only about half way to the island. We have 2 hours till dark and no place to set up camp. So we decide it would be best to head back to POC. Shortly after heading back a bull shark pops up between Clint and I. That was bad ass! It takes us 2 hours with the wind to our backs.

I won’t go into the other details of how crappy things turned. But our 3 day trip turned into a day and a half.

In Flames @ The Backroom

We caught the In Flames/Killswitch Engage show at The Backroom last night. KsE was kind of crap but In Flames put on a awesome show despite the first few songs sounding bad.

setlist:
intro
Pinball Map
System
Episode 666
Cloud Connected
Touch of Red
Like You Better Dead
In Search for I
Clayman
Only for the weak
Behind Space 99
Trigger
The Quiet Place
Colony
My Sweet Shadow

I got some of the other pages up but not quite finished yet. I want to get the Car page put together so I can start tracking the progress with the Eclipse. So far the interior , wiring, and a new rear hatch are done. Still needs a working engine and some bodywork.

Nawlins

I changed the way the site looks...again. So I need to start working on new graphics :)

Last weekend was fun! On Friday we went to go see Envy at the Alamo Drafthouse. I have got to say I thought it was really bad. I didn’t want it to be but it just sucked.

Saturday, we headed down to New Orleans with Mike and Andrea. It was a blast! We finally got a chance to eat at Emeril’s NOLA and that was probably the best dinner I have ever had. The rest of our time was drinking and eating.

I have also been working on the Eclipse little by little. I think I have fixed the electrical issues. I am going to try and fire it up tonight. Also need to try and get the dash back in. I will post some pics soon.
